Will Pilates help me to get fitter?

Yes! And this term in Pilates we will focus on all the ways it can!

Being fit means our body is ready to do the tasks we need it to. For some that might mean being fit enough to run 10k, for others it is to carry their baby, to do their job or walk their dog. Fitness is a broad term and means different things to different people.

Getting fitter reduces our risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, some cancers and even injuries and falls. Knowing where to start on your fitness journey can be hard. But we can help.

At Pop up Pilates, our physio team take the time to work out what being fit means for you. They can assess your current fitness, and help you to fill in the gaps between that and your goals.

Improving your fitness involves:

  • Addressing any muscle imbalance, pain or joint problems
  • Improving flexibility and mobility
  • Becoming more agile – making movements more fluid and precise
  • Working on balance and co-ordination
  • Having cardiovascular fitness – building our heart and lung efficiency
  • Building muscular endurance
  • Improving muscular power and strength

How will Pilates help my fitness?

Each week this term your instructor will look at your Pilates exercises through a different lens with you. Each session will help you to work on the elements above

Throughout the term we will include some gentle faster paced work to gently increase your heart rate and help you build cardiovascular fitness. Each session will be built by our expert physio team around you, the clients in their classes. No class looks the same because none of us are the same. Each week is a complete and balanced work out, focusing on building core stability, flexibility and movement balance. This term within this your physios will help you to:

Week 1:  Understand and recap all of the key elements of Pilates, the foundations of the Pilates method.

Week 2: Look at some of the Pilates exercises we know well at a different pace

Week 3: Building muscular endurance through repetition and practice.

Week 4: Develop agility through flowing movements

Week 5: Work on flexibility. Flexibility is a strong foundation of our classes and each week we do lots of it but this week we will have a lovely stretch based session helping you to ease off tight and tired muscles.

Week 6: Improve balance and co-ordination with some standing exercises and sequenced movements

Week 7: Build muscle power through core strengthening exercises.

Week 8: Recapping all of the above in the context of  addressing any muscle imbalance or pain we might have
